HumaniNet's collaborative workspace project began with the following goals:
- Create an online workspace to
share research and more effectively manage the workflow for information we
publish to our supporters, volunteers and field partners
- Develop better strategies for
collaboration within and among NGOs and humanitarian organizations in the form of quick-deploy project templates
- Find and implement software to meet these needs that is also lightweight, inexpensive
to implement, replicable in many situations, and effective in bandwidth-scarce environments
We are now mid-way through the project, and have selected
Plone, an open source content management system, as our platform to build our enhanced Community Center
and our quick-deploy Project Template.
In addition to our bundled project template, which we plan to release
under GPL or a similar
license, we will publish our results in the form of how-to documents,
implementation strategies, Plone product testing and evaluation notes, best
practices for site management and project content management and more.

Phase 1 of the project began in January 2005 and was concluded in May
2005, and Phase 2 is under way and scheduled for completion by October
2005. For more about the history of the project, click

This project has received generous support from the Meyer Memorial Trust and
a private donor.
